Your article reminds me that our study of ideas is not synonymous w/ our acceptance of those ideas. That is, we don't have to admire Shakespeare's use pf pejorative language, his marginalizing of black women. Often we high school teachers scoot past these troubling representations or completely avoid them, which is true of The Merchant of Venice, for example.

Excellent information that is from a critical perspective. Southern schools often are wary of dealing with race.
